They Work
A filter is a pretty simple thing. They keep 'stuff' from passing. The filter keeps spittle from your mouth from settling in the bowl. It trap tars, nicotine, and debris from the bowl to your mouth. This filter does a good job of doing that. There are only two things to consider. The filter also reduces flavor so you may need to use a different tobacco for a filtered pipe. How often you change the filter will depend on how wet it gets, either from your tobacco or from your mouth.
