Tom Eltang has been a lifelong fan of tobacco pipes. According to a popular story, his passion started when he was a young boy and saw some of the masterful pipes on display in a shop window. Since then, Eltang one of the most well regarded and famous Danish smoking pipe makers around.
Eltang has now been making pipes for more than forty years, apprenticing with famed Danish pipe master Anne Julie in 1974. Following that three year apprenticeship, he would work as a pipe repairman for another three years, traveling throughout Europe to improve his skills, before opening his own shop in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1980.
Eltang's pipe making ability is shown in his creativity, for both extravagant pipes as well as smoking pipes that have a minimalistic beauty to them. As he has gained popularity, Eltang makes sure to give back. He is frequently cited as a significant influence by many up and coming pipe makers in the world.
