Sutliff SPS-17 Lavish English Pipe Tobacco

At 30% off and in light of extant good reviews, I ordered five (5) pounds. It was a good move. While this doesn't have as strong a LATIKIA note as I'd like, for the price and even burn, it's hard to complain.

I don't have a lot of experience with English blends..some are definitely too English-y for me, this is much more mild. If there is topping here, it's very subdued, but its presence is probably one of the things that makes this on the milder side. Sort of reminds me of Lane HGL, but that blend has a bit more aromatic to it. In my review of that blend I said it's a good way to break into English blends. I feel the same way about this. Very nice smokey tin note and a nice mild smokey note while smoking too.

Liked it, a bit of sweet English and smoked well, though a bit wet toward the bottom of the bowl.

If you want an English blend that steps away from the traditional Latakia laden, heavy smoke of many English blends nowadays, try this. There is a topping here. However, they say it’s vanilla and yet my palate pulls rum when I taste it. I also dislike vanilla topped tobaccos so I am pretty sensitive to that flavor so if I like it, then it can’t be too vanilla. This tobacco has all the beautiful Latakia components you want, but it’s married well to a topping that is so comforting and welcoming, I smoke this on the nights I just want to feel at peace with my tobacco. I don’t want to think about all the flavors, I just want to smoke sometimes. This offers that. That’s not saying it’s boring or doesn’t have depth. It does. But it’s a simple smoke that’s forgiving, smokes cool, sweet, and burns evenly. It’s a charring light and you’re off to the races with this one. I pair it with coffee. I recommend smoking it on a cool evening. Something about this tobacco, on a cool evening, just makes the flavors really be appreciated. I’m surprised no one reviewed this one yet. I think if you enjoy English blends but want something different, you will like this.
