Great with a cup of coffee
Great English blend. Especially in the morning with a hit cup of coffee watching the sun come up. Not an all day smoke for me but pretty darn good!

Smooth
Had little problem, the man took care of it for me !

Match EMP
Almost as nice at quarter the price!

SUTLIFF DUNHILL EARLY MORNING PIPE MATCH
Although I am well aware this is intended to be a knockoff of EMP, it simply put - not even a close contender. It is however a very decent bulk English blend I would consider in small amounts. It's a bit too bitter for me and I will keep purchasing the Peterson EMP at the higher cost.

Not a Good Match, But Good in It's Own Respects
I think Sutliff used too much black cavendish and not enough bright VA in this. EMP is a stoved VA mixture with a blend of reds and brights... this isn't it. The result of a red VA/cavendish mix is a smoother, shallow and lighter bodied mixture than EMP. The Sweetness comes from the cavendish rather than the bright VA, so you miss the spicy-sugary note from the bright yellow VA. The red VA contributes a very slight bready, woody, earthy sweetness. The sun cured Orientals aren't really remarkable, but they are supportive and contribute a slight buttery, dry, tanginess. The Latakia is typical creamy, cedar-laden smokiness and isn't in great amounts. It's a good all day mixture than imparts a smoky, smooth, slightly-sweet light-bodied mixture. However, you're wanting a cheaper bulk alternative to EMP, check out Russ Oulett's Hearth and Home Daybreak...THAT is a dead ringer for EMP. Russ has developed a mixture with a good amount of bright VA that imparts that sugary sweet nuance with the typical VA spice and grassiness. It's not as smooth as Sutliff's but it has more depth, is slightly sweeter and has considerably more body. Nicotine level for Sutliff EMP Match is 1.5 out of 5.

Match? Stands well on it's own.
I've smoked a lot of the Matches and some have become part of my regular rotation because of the quality. I had never smoked the original Dunhill in my 40 years of pipe smoking. So I can only rate this on its own merits. For me, this is an excellent EMP tobacco. It's a lovely English suitable not only as the first pipe of the day but for any time of the day when I'm wanting a light English smoke.

Smooth
I've been smoking Dunhill early morning pipe for years and find this to be smoother and lighter. May become my every day smoke soon.

Surprisingly different
The Dunhill Early Morning match wasn't at all what I was expecting, that being a latakia bomb. Instead the latakia is muted in the smooth somewhat sweet creaminess of the (I'd guess) Orientals. It is excellent with strong coffee in the morning or anytime of day.

Not Even Close
EMP is one of my favorites and this is not even close. It is a decent enough tobacco on it's own but calling it a substitute for that blend is pretty deceiving to my palate. What is it missing? The flavor ... the early morning farm / grassy smell and the sour cream tone that makes it unique. What does this have? Something far more raisin-y, fig-gy, and something artificial that I didn't want. Almost like a rum flavoring ... I really don't know. It burned and performed well as a tobacco right out of the little plastic bag with only a few moments of preparation. It might really be a crowd pleaser, with the right crowd. I'm just not in it. Disclaimer: The EMP I'm smoking is the current Peterson version and I didn't taste the Dunhill one from the past. Cheers.
