For a large portion of pipe smokers out there, Virginia/Perique style blends are at the top of the totem pole. A middle of the road level, but still delicious mixture, is the Rattray's Old Gowrie blend. Great Blend
I really enjoyed this blend when I cracked the tin for the first time. It has a well balanced sweetness with a full bodied flavor that is consistent. It does remind a lot of Escudo Navy De luxe- almost identical. Will purchase again.

Great Blend
I love this blend. I enjoy Dark Kentucky, but only when it serves a supporting role. I find Old Gowrie to provide just the right kind amount of Kentucky to keep it smooth and on the mild side. I find most other VaPer blends that add Kentucky to be a bit on the harsh side. I’ve only smoke one tin of this blend (with about 6 months of age on it), so I don’t what age will do for it, but suspect it will only make it better. I’m currently cellaring some and look forward to trying it in a couple years.

An Excellent & Pleasant Smoke
Has a lot of good flavors melded into one. A little sweet. Rounded. Peppery here and there and the Kentucky is a grounding background note. Will be stocking this one. Prob a 2 of 5 on nicotine. Never can be totally sure as they hit me different on different days.

This is probably the best Virginia/ dark fired Kentucky blend I’ve ever smoked. I immediately added it to my rotation, just hope it’s in stock the next time I run out!

OG is a hit!
Just superb. Gets better with each puff. The dark virginia and kentucky mesh perfectly, and the perique is there with just the right tinge of peppery kick that you love in a VaPer. Moisture was perfect out of the tin. I would probably give a 5 except for the fact that I don’t think I’m qualified/experienced enough to do so, as I haven’t been smoking for too long at this point. It is close if not though, from what I can tell.
