No, you did not read this tobacco's specifications wrong. It is indeed and English mixture that has a pleasant room note. This is most certainly not thanks to the Latakia, but to the generous dashing of Cavendish tobacco. The other components are various Orientals and an earthy Virginia leaf. This ribbon cut tobacco will pack easily into any pipe and smoke well under any circumstance.

Rattrays's Highland Targe Pipe Tobacco
Excellent deep rich flavor and smooth mild smoke that's enjoyably smooth with little to no aftertaste. 5 Stars for this classic toabacco, everything I expected!

Quality & Unique
I'm not going to compare this to other English blends. It's not going to replace your favorite classic that you already love. I give it 5 stars because it is a very high quality tobacco. I don't find it to be as "classic" in the family of English, in fact it might be a nice departure within the group to something that stands out in it's uniqueness. Try it for what it is, a different yet elegant interpretation of an English. You deserve it at least once.

Classic Blend
5 stars for quality of components and the history of the old Scottish tobacconist Rattray., We are lucky that this is still produced. This is a Virginia, Oriental blend, composed of bright (yellow) virginias, a little oriental, black cavendish, and latakia. The virginia base has slightly malty sweet taste and the latakia is noticeable but barely. It is a mild/medium blend but with character.

well rounded blend
This blend delivers a good smoke, but there are some issues. First, it really doesn't wow me. It's kind of like ten or so other blends I'm too lazy to mention. It's nice, just not very interesting. Second, it burns a little hot, which is weird in an English blend. It makes for a good for a reading or writing smoke because there's not much to think about. Rattray's has much better blends.

Rattray’s Highland Charge
Nice smoke easy draw all the way to the last bit of tobacco in the bowl.
