This is a rather unique pipe tobacco blend. It is a mixture made solely of Virginia tobacco and has no added flavoring. But surprisingly it is a sweet and delicate blend. There is still a bit of kick behind the Virginia, but overall this Rattray's blend is fantastic. Order your new tin of Dark Fragrant tobacco today!

horrible
like smoking old bridge splinters and barn sweepings flavorless and a real Toung burner.

Rattray's Dark Fragrant
A nice cooked down Virginia with a dash of perique? Maybe. Still, nice, sweet, dank Ginnie offering that's well behaved in the pipe.

Rattray’s Dark Fragrant
Excellent draw, great smell, and smooth to the bottom of the bowl.

Meh
I bought a pound when it was available. Not overly impressed with it. Hopefully will get better with age. Threw in a bit of GH dark and it was a good smoke, then threw in some straight VA and it was ok. Threw in some more Stoved and some red and it really took off.

Rattray's Dark Fragrant
Quite Good. Smooth and relatively light and cool to the tongue. Well Done! Hope it continues!

Dark Fragrant
Needs to be packed carefully...Has good room note. Smokes dry and a little kick from the perique.

Great Sweet, Tangy Stoved VA
I really enjoy Dark Fragrant. No, it’s not a 1=1 match for Dark Star, nor should it be promoted as one. But it is a good, darkly stoved Virginia with a whisper of Perique that stands on its own. After a couple charring lights, it fires up and gives the pleasure of raisins, dried figs, and a hint of dried tart cherries. It has a good tang, to begin with, that develops into a spicy, dark fruit rich sweetness by midpoint. It’s not overly complex, but it is delicious, easy to pack and smoke, completely free of bite, even when pushed, and burns down completely with little moisture. This isn’t a multi-faceted, complex smoke that changes with each puff, but rather a satisfying, easy to smoke blend that hits the right notes for a low effort smoke.
