Don’t be fooled, this isn’t an oriental blend. A mix of Virginia and Latakia comes together in this medium-strength pipe tobacco that really should be called an English. A great choice for smokers making a transition to stronger blends from aromatics.

Peterson Balkan
This used to be richer and more moist. It is very easy on the tongue, the latakia taste is good, if mild. I use it only to make hybrid blends with some of C&Ds burley or Perique forward English like blends. Balkan calms them down, smooths them out, enhances latakia depth. The results are very good. Never smoke the stuff on its own.

Balkan mixture
This is my new (to me) favorite. A good daily smoke.

If you like Nightcap
If you like Nightcap, you will probably really enjoy this blend. I have over forty blends of tobaccos on my shelf, and I know the big beef with this tobacco is that it doesn’t have all the quintessential ingredients of a true Balkan. But at the end of the day it’s just a great smoke. It’s also consistently lower priced. It’s one of my top five.

A fair to midland English type blend
But it lacks sufficient Latakia to balance out the bite of the Perique and it would be nice of some of the Virginia was replaced by some Burley. All in all not bad for a middle of the road English blend if the nip of Perique on your tongue is not off putting and your zest for ample Latakia is not pronounced.
