The Stokkebye name is practically synonymous with pipe tobacco. One of the great Danish tobacco dynasties, it started with Erik Peter Stokkebye in 1855.
Erik Peter Stokkebye's tobacco shop would open in 1882, becoming a family business that stayed wildly successful. Erik Peter would pass the store and the tobacconists mission down to his son, Erik Paul, who would maintain the business's high quality. Erik Paul would pass the love for the tobacco business to his son Peter, who was born in 1931 in Odense, Denmark.
Peter would spend his youth learning all about the art of tobacco cultivation. During the 1950s, he spent time working in the United States, exploring tobacco farms while working for the Universal Leaf Company. The next decade was spend learning about the process of manufacturing tobacco as a production manager of a cigarette factory in Geneva, Switzerland.
This combined experience allowed Peter to create his own tobacco factory during the 1970s. His passion for tobacco, combined with his family's storied past, helped him become a highly successful tobacconist in his own right, with a popular and excellent business that continued in highlighting the Stokkebye name.
Sadly, Peter Stokkebye passed away in 2003, at the age of 72. His legacy remains, however, in two forms. First, and most important to his family, would be through his son Erik. Erik has continued the Stokkebye tradition, opening up his own line of tobacco, along with a set of smoking pipes.
Peter's legacy also continues in his own line of pipe tobacco. We carry 26 blends of Peter Stokkebye Tobacco, each coming from the mind of a man that spent his life learning about the tobacco industry through his family and his work.
