Newminster No. 400 Superior Flake Pipe Tobacco
Newminster - No. 400 Superior Navy Flake offers an exceptional smoking experience that stands out among straight Virginia tobaccos. The flakes are perfectly formed and incredibly user-friendly, easily crumbling into the ideal consistency when gently pressed into the pipe, eliminating any need for meticulous preparation. Upon lighting, No. 400 ignites smoothly, revealing a unique and rich flavor profile that distinguishes it from typical straight Virginias. The initial taste resembles sweet dough, a delightful twist that I find quite enjoyable. As the session progresses, traditional Virginia characteristics such as citrus and hay notes emerge, complemented by a robust natural sweetness. The smoke itself is cool and gentle, providing a bite-free experience. The nicotine content is mild, making it suitable for a relaxing smoke without overwhelming strength. The room note is neutral—unremarkable yet far from unpleasant, likely to be perceived as 'boring' by some. Overall, No. 400 Superior Navy Flake is a standout blend that I would confidently rate with four stars. It comes highly recommended for both novice and seasoned smokers seeking a rich, flavorful Virginia tobacco with easy handling and a pleasant smoking quality.

Figgy, dark, and slightly citrusy. So far my favorite tobacco I've tried, and its cheap in bulk. Win-win

#400 Newminster Superior Flake
The is a really nice bready style Virginia Flake. I found it needed some drying for my preference, but once I dialed that in I was rewarded with a nice bready smoke. Not too heavy, not too light. It does smell like Graham Crackers or Golden Grams in the tin and the room not is pleasant for those around you. If you enjoy Virginias this is another to add to your cart.

Good stuff
I like it because it burns nice and slow but it gets a little gnarly near the end of the bowl

Newminster #400
A great straight Virginia flake, no casing, no toppings, real good price, everything you want from a Va Flake. My daily smoke.

Newminster No. 400
A great Virginia flake, light and mellow with an aroma of honey and Graham cracker. An all-day smoke.

Bulked up & jarred
I was introduced to this blend in the first month (April '22?) of the Mystery Compare & Share blends. Before I knew what it was, I had determined that I preferred it over the (slightly more popular) VaPer that was the mystery counterpart that month. It is smooth and delicious - and is the first Va that I bulked up on and jarred. Reaching for Va's less frequently at this point than Englishes, I find the milder presentations of this leaf to be more to my preference at this time. This is one that burns more easily for me, and has me less concerned with heat & bite than many other popular Va's. Smooth & creamy, which apparently comes in part from just a touch of caramel. Don't let that push you away, I found it to be very delicate and if this leaf style is your friend, No. 400 could be an all day smoke. It's on the top 10 list for a good reason. Great value as well.
