The J. F. Germain & Son tobacco company was founded in 1820 by Thomas Aubin. Aubin brought his nephew, Philip Germain, into the business after the younger man finished school. It is Germain's sons that have kept the company going since then. Now operating successfully for over 200 years, this company has been an essential economic stronghold and symbol of the Jersey Islands.
The early years were mostly spent as a go-between for businesses operating in both France and England. As an island in the English Channel, J. F. Germain was able to assist in the transportation of tobacco, coal, iron, and many other supplies to areas that lacked those resources. The company really began to take off after about a century of small level tobacco blending.
Today Germain can focus solely on tobacco production. They have maintained their original location, even expanding their factory to allow for modernization while also retaining many of the features of the first building constructed there.
Not only that but at the beginning of the 19th century, the company assisted in the development of a new shipyard across the road from warehouses and commercial buildings. This allowed a new industrial section to open in their part of the Jersey island, which still operates today, and now also features a maritime museum.
Currently, J. F. Germain produces some of the most beloved blends in the world, like Plum Cake and Brown Flake. We also carry 11 of their other blends, which provides you with enough options that you will be able to find something from this legendary and historic company.
