Comparing a heady Latakia blend to sunshine might seem odd, but we’ve seen many a Gaslight fan do just that. This is a full and super-strong pipe tobacco, but it is also complex and citrusy enough to please even the most discerning smoker. A slow burning mix of Latakia, Oriental and Virginia, you could call this a Plug, but it’s special and so much more than that. You’ll want a sharp knife and a discerning palate to appreciate this one.

    A strong blend

The description on the tin fits the smell and taste of the tobacco. the smell was a little intimidating at first but after trying it I like it a lot.

First gl peace I've tried really new to luxury tobacco but very smooth earthy and like a dark forest great for a night smoke.

    Steam away the flavour

Posted by Jim on 18th Feb 2022

I have been a bit amazed on how many reviews wax amour about this blend. The brick is a pain to rub out and leaves one with brown fingers and unequal shreds of tobacco that do not burn well. I guess it was considered clever to market a brick instead a ribbon but I found the experience a irritation. I found the tobacco had been steamed so heavily much of the oils and sugars must have been lost leaving bits of brick in my pipe unwilling to stay lit or offer whatever the merits they might have originally possessed. The dark fired leaf is hinted at as the Turkish with the Latakia lacking spicey and smokeyness. This blend is not robust but a midrange strength smoke. Perhaps I am hard on this review as I expected better from G.L. Pease.

    A 5 Star Dessert Smoke

Posted by Ben Steel on 5th Oct 2021

This is a very rich, almost heavy blend of luxury tobaccos pressed into a moist plug. It burns slowly, smokes cooly, and tastes phenomenal. If you're into beer, it would be akin to an Imperial Stout; luscious, creamy, dark, somewhat nutty and oh so delicious. It's also incredibly complex, more so than any other blend I've sampled and I've sampled a lot. After my first bowl, I was sure this would be a 'once-in-a-while' dessert smoke thinking it too rich for daily use. And then each evening that I sampled something different, I felt myself contemplating Gaslight. Since then, it has become my primary evening smoke. Yes, it's dense, creamy, and heavy, but if you like BIG tobaccos and a very rich taste, it's hard to do better than Gaslight.

    GLPease Gaslight tobacco

Smells divine in the can, a lovely dark cake that looks good enough to eat. Taste and smoke ability did not quite rise to expectations... Would give it 4.5 stars if that was an option. Definitely would buy again and recommend to others.

    Ooh that smell!

Posted by Justin Hayes on 22nd Apr 2021

This is one of the most interesting blends I've ever smelled in my life. It's got good flavor, it's just...that tar-like, body odor, fecal kind of smell is rather off putting and I can't believe I'm about to say this, but that terrible smell somehow works for this blend! If you can get past the putrid smell of the tin it actually has a good flavor to it.

50 + year Latakia / Balkan veteran. Interesting blend and construction. Dissection/mix/rest absolutely necessary. Reminiscent of the "experimental" English blends of the late 60's and early 70's. So if your are into pipe ritual and and want to spend the extra effort you will probably enjoy this offing. Each puff seemed to present differently to enhance the experience. May not be for the true old "Balkan Sobranie" and Afrikander smokers. As for me, a good change of pace for occasional use.
