Escudo Navy De Luxe
I’m new to pipe smoking and this has been about the seventh one I’ve tried. Others include Ashton’s Artisan blend, Orlik Golden slice, Peterson Flake, Mac Baren Scottish blend. This Navy De Luxe was delicious. I liked the taste of Golden slice but sometimes I wanted something less sweet. The Navy De Luxe was perfect for that. Sweet and yet still earthy enough for me. Upon opening the tin it smelled like an old country barn which brought about some nice memories. The tobacco was a medium moisture level upon opening. I rub the rolls out and they fall into nice long ribbons. Mechanically very easy to smoke and stays lit well. A solid everyday smoke.

Excellent Va Perique
Excellent presentation and quality. Virginias are perfect and more than a wisp of Perique. A favorite for certain.

same Escudo?
Very good smoke still. Moisture content perfect. My tin was not at all dry like one of the last reviewers stated with theirs. Tin note was as always, I can smell that perique! I like that perique. I look for that perique! Upon initial char light, definitely ripe VAs as stated, more VA, then that classic sweet taste on the top of your palate and/or, on the roof of your mouth as with Escudo. Then, the faintest bit of perique that quickly developed into a bit of chocolate note? if i have to say anything negative about this time around with Escudo, its that there's not enough perique. I feel like there used to be more perique. That might just be me though. Maybe. Not trying dissuade or deter anyone from buying this, I know theres plenty of people out there who cringe at the thought of anyone purchasing even a few tins of their beloved Escudo if its not them! It might just be something off with my palate this smoke around, it could be other factors having to do with the tobacco itself but, thats my spiel. Overall, what's not to like about va/pers, and as for this particular tin, ph balanced, smooth, bready, choco even, and i think maybe at some point, the perique might just jump out and slap me in the face and say, I'm right here ya idiot! Happy Smokes Escudos!!

Escudo Navy de Luxe
Quality of tobacco cut was not up to par, and the moisture content was low approaching dry and crumbly.

Not Bad
A decent everyday tobacco. Had more of a bite than I was looking for but found it still enjoyable. Good for when I'm tinkering in the garage.

Escudo
I really enjoy this tobacco. It is definitely my favorite Va/Per blend. If you are a new pipe smoker it may take you a few bowls to really “get” it. At first try it may seem a little simple but there’s actually a lot going on there. It’s in my top five for sure.

What more can I say?
A solid VaPer in an interesting coin shape, burns slowly. Packs well. A working man or enlisted man of a smoke (a good thing).
