Cornell & Diehl Granulated Perique Pipe Tobacco

I quite enjoy smoking this by itself in a pipe, though I reach for other blends faster. Definitely have blended it with geomtrie with success, but I it didn’t blow me away. I’ll have to find something to blend it with from my collection that makes me go “wow”. However by itself it is a great savory, slightly funky maybe, kinda horse stable type of flavor. Like horse musk and old barn wood. Not a raisiny or dried fruity and barn wood smoke like some perique can apparently be, just the barn wood and horse musk. I suppose there’s a spice to it but what is most noticeable to me is slightly musky slightly funky almost sort of mushroomy umami flavor. Great savory smoke. I’ll have to smoke more of this, I’ve just been getting so many other fantastic blends from this amazing website. It’s a crime I’ve only had three or four bowls of this. My friends don’t love it like I do, but if you like strong savory, without jet black flavors, this is fantastic. It’s not a super dark rich taste, it’s a “brown” rich savory taste. Satisfies the need for a bit of nicotine if you have a tolerance. Not overtly perceptible nic hit like Old Joe Krantz or Big ‘n Butley, but it’ll get some into your system if lower nic blends leave you kind of unsatisfied in that department. Probably tolerable to those still sensitive to nicotine but to be honest I wouldn’t really be able to tell you one way or the other as I am DEFINITELY not sensitive to vitamin N.

This type of tobacco has become one of my most favorite. C&D has really put forth some excellent leaf with this offering. I do not find the strong peppery flavors many report. I find the flavor is far better with plenty of sweet/stewed fruit up front. As a bowl gets towards the end the pepper does come up to deliver a creamy spice sensation and a bit of power. Very pleasant. While some Enthusiasts find Perique a bit too much for their palette, I find this leaf to be well worth a try. Highly recommend for the Enthusiast and any new comers ready to brave the comments and find out for themselves how good this tobacco is.

Really like this. Have used it to increase body or Prince Albert and Granger. Not smoked it solely by itself (yet).
